Every listing needs photos. No debate there. Video earns its cost when you want to win the next listing appointment or build your name, since about half of agents still use no drone photography or video.NAR 2025 · Independent A 3D/Matterport tour earns its cost on homes priced above the median, or marketed to out-of-town and busy buyers. They can walk every room at any hour and arrive at a showing already knowing the home. Below is a decision table by listing type and price, so you're not guessing on the next one.
Do I need all three: photo, video, and 3D?
No. Every listing needs photos, and the other two build on them. Photos are the way in: the MLS thumbnail, the portal grid, the thing a buyer scrolls past or stops on. Nothing replaces that. Video and 3D each handle a different job after the thumbnail. So ask which ones this listing needs, not which format wins.
Think layers, not choices. Photos get the click. Video builds interest and travels on social. A 3D tour lets a buyer "walk" the home before they ask for a showing, so the ones who ask already know the layout.
What is each format best at?
Each one helps with a different part of the buyer's decision. Pick by that, not by habit or budget alone, and you'll get more out of each shoot.
- Photography introduces the home through the lead image and the gallery. Use it to show the rooms, the light and the details clearly. A well-ordered set helps buyers know what they'd be coming to see.
- Video helps with the pitch and the feed. It's the piece that travels on Instagram and Reels, and the sample that helps you win your next listing appointment. Many agents aren't using it, since about half still use no drone photography or video at all.NAR 2025 · Independent
- 3D/Matterport tours help the buyer who wants to check first. Out-of-town and busy buyers "walk" the home on their own time before they ever call, so the ones who do ask for a showing already know the layout.
- Aerial/drone and virtual staging are add-ons, not tiers of their own. They back up whichever of the three you already use. Drone shows the scale and the setting. Staging gives an empty room a place for the eye to land, and 83% of buyers' agents say it helps buyers picture living there.NAR 2025 · Independent

Which media does my listing need? A decision table.
Price and listing type matter most. Here's how we'd map them if you had to decide on the spot:
| Listing type / price | Photo | Video | 3D tour | Why |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Condo / starter, under ~$800K | Always | Optional | Nice-to-have | Fast-moving price band; photos + speed usually outweigh the extra production time. |
| Standard single-family, ~$800K–$1.5M | Always | Recommended | Recommended | The crowded middle of the LA market, where video and 3D help your listing look different from others at the same price. |
| Move-up / view home, ~$1.5M–$3M | Always | Strongly recommended | Strongly recommended | Buyers here compare several listings. A tour lets the serious ones check the layout before a showing. |
| Luxury / estate, $3M+ | Always | Essential | Essential | Out-of-town and relocating buyers are common. A full package gives them a real look before anyone boards a flight. |
| Investment / off-market to investors | Always | Optional | Strongly recommended | Investors want fast, remote due diligence, and a tour answers "what am I actually buying" without a site visit. |
| Vacant listing | Always (pair with staging) | Optional | Recommended | Empty rooms feel smaller and colder. Staging plus a tour shows buyers the scale and how the rooms flow. |
What does adding video or 3D cost?
Standard LA photo packages usually run about $150–$400. Bundles with photo, video, drone and 3D together cost more, based on square footage and services.LA market context, not a VVT price We shoot everything in one visit, so adding video or 3D doesn't mean a second appointment. Same crew, same day, one invoice.

Does 3D replace the need for video, or the other way around?
Neither replaces the other. They reach the buyer at different moments. A 3D tour is self-serve. The buyer walks the home alone, at midnight, on their own schedule, and arrives at the showing knowing the layout. Video does the showing off and the sharing. It's what an agent posts, forwards, and uses to win the next listing appointment, not only to market this one.
If you can only add one to a standard photo package, match it to the goal. Pick video if you want to win the listing pitch or build your personal brand. Pick the 3D tour if your buyers are far away, spread out, or price-sensitive.

Where does drone footage fit into this decision?
Drone is rarely the deciding factor on its own. Think of it as the opening shot for whichever format you choose. For view properties, big lots and estates, an aerial shows the scale and the setting in the first two seconds. No interior photo or ground-level video can do that. Pair it with video for a strong open, or with a 3D tour to give context before the buyer steps inside.
Frequently asked questions
Is video or a 3D tour a better investment for one listing?
It depends on the goal. Video is stronger for social reach and for winning your next listing pitch. About half of agents still use no drone photography or video at all, so it can help you look different.NAR 2025 · Independent A 3D tour is stronger for buyers who want to check things first: out-of-town and busy buyers can walk every room on their own time and arrive at a showing already knowing the home.
Can I skip photography and just do a 3D tour?
No. Photos are still the way in: the MLS thumbnail and portal grid a buyer sees before they'd ever click into a 3D tour. Skip the photos and many buyers never reach the tour.
What listings benefit most from a 3D/Matterport tour?
Homes above the median price, homes marketed to out-of-town or relocating buyers, vacant listings and investment properties get the most from it. Buyers in each of those groups want to check the home from afar before they ask for a showing.

No, not with us. Photography, video, aerial drone and 3D/Matterport tours are all captured in one visit, so adding a format doesn't add a scheduling step. It just adds a line to your package.
